I am a Physical Educator and a DAPE (Developmental Adapted Physical Education) Specialist. The majority of my job is working with students with special needs. Dogs have always been a passion of mine, and one of my goals being a DAPE specialist is integrating
animal-assisted therapy (AAT) with my dog, Tyler, into my job working with students with special needs.
I have compiled countless articles on companions and how they benefit all people, while writing my literature research paper to complete my Masters of Arts in Education. To help accomplish this goal, Tyler has taken three dog obedience courses, a Canine Good Citizen class, and an acting class. This summer Tyler will be taking a therapy dog preparation course in hopes of obtaining his therapy license. If he passes, it is my plan to then integrate Tyler into the schools to work with students with special needs. Recently, this plan has slightly changed due to a budget cut in the school district I work in,
and my job will be reduced in the fall of 2008. This reduction has pushed me to pursue another passion, dog walking & pet sitting, and I am more than eager to start this new journey! Animals have always played an important part in my life. The benefits of a healthy dog can be limitless. I love caring for dogs and consider it a privilege to offer my service for dogs to be physically and mentally healthy. Since I am a physical educator, I believe in lifelong fitness for humans and also in animals.
I have been active my entire life playing sports and running long distances. I have ran two marathons with the hope of running a third this fall. Because I enjoy running, and most dogs would prefer to run or walk at a fast pace, I would
love to take your dog for a jog!
